Searching to satisfy the wide musical tastes of
the current audience, while yet maintaining the integrity
of pursuing artistic challenge and reward: there are
only a handful of musicians who continuously strive
for such modest enrichment and overall appeal. Maybe
it was to remedy discontent, futile aspirations, or
merely to pursue a higher ground, but four such individuals
have come together with mutual interests to formulate
the band Jelly Dogg.
Like a good wine, Jelly Dogg was slowly perfected
over several years.
  |
Jason, the guitarist, an import
from the woods of Virginia, resolved to step beyond
the oft-repeated interpretations of the infamous
classics. With his heart in one hand and a smoking-gun-like
guitar in the other, his patient self instruction
provided his musical foundation with elements of
Eddie Van Halen and echoes of Jerry Cantrell of
Alice in Chains. Wittingly, Jason still seems to
hold steadfast to the child-like playfulness of
down-home rock-n-roll. After several years becoming
familiar with St. Louis, Jason was introduced to
a vocalist named Vince through a mutual friend. |
  |
Vince, a native to St. Louis,
is educated in the musical theory of the classical
Greats and conditioned by the music revival of
the latter half of the century. Throughout his
youth, he enveloped himself with original inspiration
and was motivated through musical creativity. However,
soon after his acquaintance with Jason in autumn
of 1999, Vince was invited to rehearse with Jason's
current band with hopes of similar musical aspirations.
This assimilation opened the doors to several small
performances in local venues and pubs. After several
years fell away, and band members' mutual interests
began to waver, the restless band was contacted
by the bassist, Jay. |
  |
Jay's artistic flair hints
of his ancestral roots that stem from the bayous
of Louisiana, yet bear the upbringing of the heart
and soul of St. Louis. His adept intuition with
music brings to life its hidden beats and low soothing
rhythms, which empowered Jay to immediately accompany
Jelly Dogg. Although Jay's ambition further motivated
the band's craft, the band still lacked the savvy
of a technical percussionist. Attempting to overcome
any superficial notions vexing the band, Scott
was soon petitioned (whose adherence to detail
soon exceeded the band's minimal preconditions). |
  |
Scott, a New England native,
was quickly drafted into Jelly Dogg late in the
spring of 2003. His self-challenging idealism and
consistency provided a technical facet that was
soon coveted by the rest of the members. Scott
thrived on originality and innovative dynamics.
His aggressive style could only be equaled to harnessing
thunder in a box. This charisma supplemented the
band's zealousness and ambition. Since Scott's
appearance, no one anticipated his expedient aptitude
and mastery of his position in Jelly Dogg. This
revelation accented the desire to perform before
an audience. |
Jelly Dogg is a St. Louis band with
passion and jovial performance. The band's charisma
may beckon an inebrious audience, yet still challenge
the music devotee. Jelly Dogg has sustained the ability
to fuse the on-going movement of the musical industry
and still maintain the self-integrity of music appreciation.
Let the memories in your life include the Jelly Dogg
experience.
Or something like that.
For the record,
the eloquent words above were penned not by Scott,
but by none other than Vincent J. Bryson, vocalist – and
writer – extraordinaire! |
